MORAGA, Calif. - Saint Mary's women's cross country team recorded its highest finish since the 2023 season Friday morning, finishing fourth overall out of the nine conference competitors. Despite the tough conditions of Tecolote Shores at Mission Bay Park, the Gaels recorded four runners in the top-30 and ran an impressive race to take fourth.
Sophomore Courtney Fitzgibbon led the Gaels early on, reaching the 3k mark at 20th overall before pacing the Gaels at 22nd overall with a 6k time of 22:33:9. This was Fitzgibbon's second straight season leading the Gaels at the WCC Championships after finishing 43rd overall a season ago. Just behind Fitzgibbon were senior Julia-Anna Lily Bell and freshman Audrey O'Connor, both of whom finished valiantly in their first WCC Championship Race for the Gaels. Bell would finish 25th overall with a time of 22:38:2 in her first 6k race of the season, while O'Connor finished 27th overall with a time of 22:46:5 to extend her streak to five top-five finishes in her first five collegiate races.
Closing out the top five for Saint Mary's were the sophomore duo Zoe Leach and Maya Crimin, who join Fitzgibbon as top-five finishers in the race for the second consecutive season. Leach finished 29th overall with a time of 22:49:7, while Crimin finished 41st overall with a time of 23:13:1. Rounding out the Gael runners in the top-50 were upperclassmen Jane Harig and Eleanor Jepsen, with Harig taking 42nd overall, just behind Crimin, with a time of 23:13:8, while Jepsen took 46th overall with a time of 23:20:9.
Rounding out the Gael finishers were graduate student Kaylee Barnes (24:31:0), senior Jane Carney (24:56:9), and junior Ava Luczkow (25:25:2). The Gaels ran one of their most consistent races of the season, a great all-around performance from Coach Kinsey's squad, who look to build off of this race heading into NCAA West Regionals.
The Gaels will now have a weekend off before heading to Sacramento for the NCAA West Regionals on Friday, November 13th.
