MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's swim program is happy to announce the addition of Carter Walles to the coaching staff announced by head coach Ellie Monobe.
Walles was formerly a three-year assistant coach at Division II Minnesota State Mankato where he also completed his masters degree in Sports Management. The Mavericks most recently won the 2026 NSIC Team Championship for their fourth title in program history. Walles helped the program to its first team title in over four years after Minnesota went back-to-back in 2021 and 2022.
As a student-athlete, Walles started his career at Pacific before transferring to Cal State Bakersfield following COVID-19 for his final two seasons. With the Roadrunners, Walles was a two-time Academic All-MPSF award winner as well as a participant in the 2022 National Invitational Championship. He posted eight top-10 finishes that season along with a trio of second place finishes in both the 200 meter Breaststroke and 1000 meter Freestyle. Out of the pool, Walles was also a key figure in the Student Athlete Advisory Committee at Cal State Bakersfield, being elected SAAC President during his senior season in 2023.
Saint Mary's swim head coach Ellie Monobe is excited to welcome Walles to the Gaels coaching staff ahead of the 2026-27 season.

"Carter has found tremendous success in coaching in a relatively short time", said Monobe. "I am excited for our athletes to learn from him and to work alongside him as we build a championship team" (Monobe).
"I am excited to be joining the Gaels mission to build an excellent swim program in the Bay Area", said Walles. "Saint Mary's is in a perfect situation to capitalize on what is a robust swimming community in California. Seeing the commitment that coach Eillie and the Saint Mary's staff has put towards building these teams gives me confidence in the success we'll have in the program's future near and far. Go Gaels!"
