MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary's men's basketball team has reached 15 student-athletes for its 2026-27 roster with the signing of freshman Sam Curvy out of Portland, Oregon. A prep standout at Oregon powerhouse Jesuit High School, Curvy becomes the fourth true freshman to sign on with Gaels for 2026-27.
"We are thrilled to welcome Sam Curvy to our program. He is a talented guard from Portland who brings great feel, toughness, and a competitive edge that fits exactly what we value here at Saint Mary's," said Coach Mickey McConnell, "He comes from a great family and his personality, energy, and approach to the game will blend seamlessly with the rest of our guys. We are excited to help him grow on and off the court and cannot wait to get him here with our group."
A three-year varsity athlete at Jesuit, Curvy helped lead the Crusaders to a 56-30 record over his three seasons of competition, including a runner-up finish at the 6A State Championship in 2025 and a third place finish at the same tournament in 2026. A 6-4 wing, Curvy is a gifted athlete and can score inside and out on the floors. A two-sport athlete at Jesuit, Curvy also competed for his school's track and field team, competing in jumps and sprints, and qualifying for the state championships in the triple jump as a junior.
The Gaels now have a roster of 15 for the 2026-27 campaign that with feature a good balance of youth and veteran talent, with nine underclassmen (four true freshmen, one redshirt freshman, three true sophomores and one redshirt sophomore) and six upperclassmen (one true junior, two redshirt juniors, two true seniors and one redshirt senior). Curvy represents part of the extremely bright future for Coach Mickey McConnell's squad.
