

MWP | Gaels Men’s Water Polo Welcomes North-of-the-Border Standout Leo Hachem

MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary's men's water polo team and head coach James Lathrop have announced the newest addition to the program with the signing of Montreal, Canada native Leo Hachem.
The incoming freshman has already gained extensive international experience with the Canadian Senior National Team. Hachem represented Canada at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Japan, and the 2023 Pan American Games in Chile. In 2024, he also competed on the Canadian Senior National Team during the 2024 PanAm Cup in Columbia, and most recently competed as a starter with the team in the 2026 World Cup B in Malta.
In addition to the senior national team experience, Hachem spent two seasons playing for Australia's National Water Polo League's University of New South Wales Wests Magpies, helping the club to a AWL Championships title in 2025.
Hachem also spent time as the captain for the Canadian Junior National Team in 2025 and 2024. During the 2025 season, his team competed in the Junior World Aquatics Championships in Croatia, while in 2024 the team played at the Junior Pan American Games in El Salvador. In 2022, Hachem and the Canadian Youth National Team competed in the Youth World Aquatics Championship in Serbia.
With all of this high-level experience already under his belt, Hachem arrives in Moraga looking to make an immediate impact during the Gaels inaugural season.
