MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's men's water polo team secured an exhibition victory at home over the Diablo Valley Vikings today, 23-4. The match featured fifteen different goalscorers for the Gaels, with appearances from all three Gael goalkeepers in another memorable home match in Moraga.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Saint Mary's got off to a strong start with a goal within 24 seconds of the match from their leading goalscorer Leo Hachem, and kept the momentum rolling by going on a 5-0 run to start. The first quarter ended with the Gaels up 7-1 with seven different goalscorers, including goals from their second leading goalscorer Mason Black, as well as the only Gael to win Saint Mary's student-athlete of the week, Hamish Ellison. At the halfway mark, the Gaels led 10-3 with ten different goalscorers, showing just how much depth Coach Lathrop's squad possesses.

The Gaels continued to dominate in the third quarter, holding the Vikings scoreless while scoring six unanswered goals to end the quarter in an effort led by freshman Hugo Riley's two goals. Riley was one of five Gaels in the match to record four points, while he and junior Mateo McKay led the way with three goals each in the match. The Gaels would end the 4th quarter with their second 6-0 run of the half, eventually taking down the Vikings 23-4.

GAME NOTES

The Gaels had 15 different goal scorers in the match, while 18 different Gaels recorded a point in the match.
Mateo McKay and Hugo Riley recorded hat-tricks in the match, while Donovan Swann, Jacob Carlson, Ferran De Witt, and Kyle Stilinovich all recorded a brace.
Stryder Stelck led the way with a hat-trick of assists in the match, while Nicholas Valente, Jacob Carlson, and Kyle Stilinovich all recorded two assists in the match.
All three goalkeepers saw action for the Gaels in the match, with each goalkeeper recording a save and Griffin Lagsdin recording an assist.
Jacob Carlson recorded four steals, while Alessandro Fumo recorded three, and five different Gaels recorded two.

LOOKING AHEAD

Saint Mary's men's water polo returns to action next Saturday, October 3rd, for the BW Invitational in San Jose. The Gaels will first take on the host No. 9 San Jose State at 12:00 p.m. in a return to San Jose for Gaels' assistant coach Jamie Steingraf. The Gaels will then take on the No. 14 UC Santa Barbara Gauchos at 3:00 p.m. for the second time this season.
