Baumuller Claims Second Career Department Student-Athlete of the Week Award After 2nd Place Finish at CDA National Reserve

MORAGA, Calif. - For the second time in his Saint Mary's career, golfer Sam Baumuller was named this week's department Student-Athlete of the Week after a second consecutive top-three individual finish and a team title at the CDA National Reserve Invitational.
Baumuller was tied for the tournament lead yet again at CDA National Reserve in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho last week. Despite a two-over final round, the redshirt junior held on for a second place finish for his second top-three finish of the 2026 fall season. Baumuller carded a tournament and career low 64 (-8) in the second round on Monday to catapult him and the team into first place. The round featured a team high seven birdies as well as an eagle on the par five 17th, closing the round four-under over his final five holes. Baumuller led the field in par four scoring for a career best second place finish at seven-under-par. Saint Mary's went on to win its first tournament title in the final round on Tuesday since taking home the El Macero Classic back in 2024.
Baumuller led the Gaels in scoring average last season and has gotten off to a blistering start here in 2026, currently sitting with a 69.0 scoring average through six rounds of competition. The Los Gatos native will lead the Gaels into the Visit Stockton Invitational for their third event of the fall season starting on October 12.
