The Saint Mary's Pep Band is a volunteer ensemble of musicians who perform at all men's and women's basketball home games and selected women's volleyball home games as well as various on campus events. The band travels with the basketball teams to West Coast Conference Tournament and NCAA (when applicable) postseason tournaments. Outside of athletic events, the Pep Band performs at alumni and community events, including alumni pre-game parties and local festivals. Attendance at activities and events where the band performs is expected. Events such as movie nights, beach days, picnics, t-shirt decorating, are standard activities for the band because having fun and de-stressing from academia are a high priority.
The Saint Mary's Pep Band is a member of the Associated Students of Saint Mary's College (ASSMC), and is required to have elected officers that report to the organization's board. The elected officers, along with the Band Director, determine how the band operates. Each year student officers help the Band Director organize the band at rehearsals and performances, schedule social activities, organize fundraisers and, along with the athletic department's marketing department, select music. The band's budget is funded by ASSMC as well as by the athletic department and through generous donations from parents, family, friends and alumni. The Pep Band is directed by TBD.
How to Join: Anyone can join the Pep Band and it is a great opportunity for musically inclined individuals! Membership is open to all currently enrolled Saint Mary's College students, with all skill levels and abilities. To submit an application to join the SMC Pep Band, please click HERE. Rehearsals take place at least twice a week for 90 minutes each. Rehersal times are determined by the band's executive team based on input from all members.
