Justin Joyner is entering his seventh year with the program and his sixth season on the coaching staff. He joined the Gaels' staff before the 2017-18 season as the Director of Operations before being promoted to assistant coach in the summer of 2018. Joyner was promoted to Associate Head Coach during the summer of 2022.
Joyner was a point guard for the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos from 2006-11. He is in the Gauchos record book multiple times as he is eighth all-time with 357 assists. Joyner was also known for his defensive prowess and finished his career second all-time with 134 steals. Joyner started all 32 games for the 2007-08 Gauchos team that won a program high 23 games during the season.
A native of Concord, Calif., Joyner started as point guard for California State Division I champion De La Salle High School. He played alongside former Gaels Associate Head Coach Marcus Schroeder at De La Salle, helping the Spartans go 32-1 and claim the state championship in 2006.
