Nicholas Combs

Nicholas Combs is in his first season as an assistant on the Saint Mary's Women's Tennis teams, but no stranger to Saint Mary's, having played on the Men's Tennis team from 2016-2020 before moving to coaching. Combs spent 2022-2023 as the Men's Tennis Assistant Coach, helping lead the program to its first WCC tournament appearance since 2013. This year he joined the Women's Tennis Program in the Assistant Tennis Coach role.

Before joining the college tennis coaching ranks, Combs gained experience as the associate tennis professional at Orinda Country Club, where he collaborated with Tyler Browne, the former associate head coach of the University of California Berkeley. In addition, he actively participated on the board of a local nonprofit named "Rally4Reading." This organization is dedicated to enhancing the accessibility of tennis for underprivileged youth within the broader Oakland area.

Comb’s accomplishments prior to Saint Mary’s was four-time letter winner and four time Scholastic GPA Award from 2013 to 2016, team captain, MVP, and ranked No.1 singles player from 2014 to 2016, league champion doubles in 2013 and 2016, and team league champions in 2015.

In three of his four years, he earned the First Team All-League Award in 2013, 2015, and 2016, where those same years him and his duo CIF Championship Runner-Up Doubles. Comb’s was a league finalist in 2015. Early on his career he was the No.2 single player in 2013 and received the Coach’s Freshman of the Year Award that same year.

The Gaels run in Combs' family, as both his grandfather and great-grandfather attended Saint Mary's. During his senior season he was also named WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention as a Business Administration major.Â
