Professor Jones came to Saint Mary’s in 2003 and has held numerous positions at the College including serving on the Rank and Tenure Committee, Faculty Welfare Committee, Faculty Salary Task Force, Director of the Mentored Access to Programs in Science (MAPS), Director of Honors Living Learning Community, and Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. He has also been involved with Athletics as a staunch attendee at many campus events and served on the Athletic Strategic Planning Committee, and been coach to the SMC Women’s Club Soccer team.
Chris Jones can address various aspects on the intersections of math and sports, including deciphering the reality of an athlete's or team's winning streaks or explaining the mathematical motivations behind the NFL's overtime scoring rule changes. When he's not analyzing sports through a mathematical lens, the SMC Mathematics and Computer Science department chair teaches courses on the Fundamental Concepts of Mathematics, Introductory Statistics, Linear Algebra and Mathematical Modeling.
