Ilyana Achziger joined the Saint Mary's Rowing staff in advance of the 2019-20 season after spending time as a personal trainer and Cal and as the associate head coach of the women's rowing team at Berkeley High School.
While at Saint Mary's, Achziger focuses her time working with the novice rowers, while helping facilitate land training opportunities for those student-athletes who are unable to row. This falls in line with her work at Cal, where as a personal trainer for 11 years, she worked with the physical therapy department to assist in rehabilitation assignments from repetitive stress injuries. She provided training programs for clients with severe mobility issues, with an emphasis on balance and injury prevention.
Achziger also spent from 2009-18 as the associate head coach of women's rowing at Berkeley High School, where she provided the training plans for mobility, core stability, and strength and conditioning. While at Berkeley High, her teams enjoyed a lot of success, including multiple boats competing at the US Rowing Junior Nationals.
Achziger herself is an accomplished rower, having done so as a coxswain at Cal and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1998. She is a US Rowing Level II Coach and has her National Academy of Sports Medicine Certification.Â
