MORAGA, Calif. — Men’s basketball redshirt junior Malik Fitts has been named the Saint Mary’s Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Jan. 27 to Feb. 2 after putting up monster offensive numbers across two WCC games.
Fitts was the Gaels' top scorer during the week as he averaged 28.0 points in contests versus Portland and BYU. He was 21-of-32 overall from the floor and even more impressively 11-of-20 from three-point land.
Against the Pilots, Fitts put up 27, had three steals, two assists and set career highs in three-pointers made (7) and attempted (14). Saint Mary's posted their biggest WCC win of the season as they cruised past the Pilots, 86-64.
In an epic showdown against the Cougars in Provo, Fitts once again lit up the scoreboard as he notched 29 points on 11-of-15 shooting including making three of his four tries from beyond the arc. The redshirt junior also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and added two more steals as SMC fell by just two to BYU in the final seconds.
Saint Mary’s faces off against San Diego on Thursday on the road before returning home for a big matchup versus No. 2 Gonzaga on Saturday.
