
Saint Mary's Announces Six Football Finalists

Moraga, CA - Saint Mary's College Athletic Director Rick Mazzuto announced Wednesday that six finalists have been selected for the job vacancy of head football coach. The finalists are Jeff Brown, Kevin Kiesel, Tim Landis, Bill Laveroni, John Parker and Roger Theder.
A seven member search committee will interview the finalists from February 25 through March 2. The committee is chaired by Associate Athletic Director Tom Bowen and consists of two members of the football team, two members of the Saint Mary's faculty, one staff member of the College and one athletic benefactor.
Brown has been the Gaels' defensive coordinator for the past five seasons. Prior to coming to Saint Mary's he coached at Trinity University for four seasons. Brown began his coaching career at his alma mater, USC, as a graduate assistant from 1989-90.
Kiesel has been the head coach at Fairfield University (Fairfield, CT) for the past three seasons, where he became the school's first head coach in January of 1996. From 1993-95 he served two roles at Albright College as head coach and Associate Athletic Director. Kiesel also worked as an assistant coach at the United States Naval Academy, Fordham University, Temple University, Gettysburg College, the University of Kentucky and West Chester University.
Landis has been the head coach at Davidson College (Davidson, NC) for the past five seasons, where he also coached baseball for two years. Prior to becoming the school's head coach he was an assistant coach with the program for two seasons. From 1989-91 Landis was the Athletic Director at Morrisville High School (Morrisville, PA) in addition to coaching football and baseball.
Laveroni just completed his fourth season as an assistant coach at Rutgers University. He was an assistant coach for the San Jose Sabercats from 1995-96 after coaching at San Jose State from 1990-94. Prior to coaching for Terry Shea at SJSU, Laveroni was the offensive line coach at UC Berkeley from 1983-86 and 1987-89. Additional collegiate experience came at Utah State from 1978-82.
Parker is the current head coach and defensive coordinator at Cheyney University (Cheyney, PA). He accepted the position in April of 1998 after a two-year stint as head coach at the University of Minnesota, Morris. Parker also worked as an assistant coach at East Tennessee State, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Michigan Technological University, Mac Murray College and Washington University (St. Louis, MI).
Theder has coaching experience at the college, NFL and USFL levels. He was an assistant coach at the college level a t San Jose State, UC Berkeley, Stanford and Northern Illinois in addition to a four-year stint as head coach at UC Berkeley from 1978-81. Theder coached in the professional ranks with the San Diego Chargers, Baltimore/Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Outlaws.
