TEMPE, Ariz. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its 2026 Division I Women's Regional Awards on Tuesday which included Saint Mary's own Sofia Daryaie who was named the Northwest Regional Most Improved Player of the Year.
Daryaie stepped into a big spot for the Gaels after missing the entire 2024-25 season due to an injury, playing out of the top singles spot for the majority of the 2026 campaign. The three-year Los Gatos native was 4-10 in singles play but led the team with eight doubles wins with the majority alongside teammate Tiana Fox. Daryaie was named All-WCC Honorable Mention for her first career all-conference selection.
Daryaie had notable wins in straight sets against UC Riverside and in WCC action against Gonzaga's top singles player, defeating fellow All-WCC Honorable Mention Emily Robertson 6-2 7-6. She also went unfinished in two highly competitive sets against the 2026 WCC Co-Player of the Year in Eva Alvarez Sande from Washington State.
