Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's men's tennis team took a strong win over the University of Nevada, Reno on Saturday. The match was highlighted for the Gaels by singles play. The Gaels won five of six to win the match 5-2.
Saturday's win over Nevada, ended a five game slide for the Gaels. The Gaels were dominant in singles play. The Gaels won five of six in singles matches, losing only the number three spot. In the no. 1 spot, Thomas Filipcik def. Chad Stoloff; 6-3, 6-3. In the no. 2 spot, Thomas Burgermeister def. Tomas Hamrik; 6-2, 6-3. In the no. 4 spot, Arvind Stokes def Jay Stearley; 6-0, 7-5. In the no. 5 spot, Deryk Inn def. Jason Yelloy 6-3, 7-5. And in the no. 6 spot, playing in his first singles match of the season, Marc Mowrer def. Brett Gutzer; 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
The Gaels will be in action next at home hosting the Saint Mary's Invitational. The Gaels next match will be Sunday, against Gonzaga.
