
Football Falls to #2 Montana 49-19

Missoula, MT - The Saint Mary's football team (3-3) was defeated by the #2-ranked Montana Grizzlies (5-1) by a final score of 49-19 in front of 19,242 at Washington-Grizzly Stadium on Saturday. Gael quarterback, Gus Papanikolas had 250 yards of total offense against the Grizzlies.
Papanikolas was 7-for-16 passing for 155 yards and one touchdown. That touchdown came on a 59-yard catch and run to Nate Brown in the fourth quarter. Brown finished the game with two receptions for 63 yards and one touchdown. Papanikolas also had 18 carries for 95 yards and one touchdown. Andre Coleman had 12 carries for 54 yards and a touchdown.
Montana opened the game with 35 unanswered points by the 11:08 mark of the second quarter. Grizzly quarterback Brandon Neill connected with Yohance Humphery from 14 yards out for the first score, then he hooked up with Etu Molden for a 34-yard score to open a 14-0 lead with 7:35 remaining in the first quarter. On UM's third possession of the game, Humphery scored from 13 yards out for a 21-0 Griz lead at the end of the first quarter.
Neill and Molden hooked up on touchdown strikes of 11 and 75 yards to give Montana a 35-0 lead with 11:18 remaining in the second quarter. Saint Mary's got on the scoreboard when Coleman scored from two yards out, making the score 35-6 after Ezequiel Arevalo's kick failed. Montana added a 17-yard touchdown on its next possession, before Papanikolas' 58-yard touchdown scamper cut the lead to 42-12 with 4:27 left in the first half. After Montana recovered a Gael fumble on the 1-yard line, Humphery scored on the next play for Grizzlies final score of the day.
Saint Mary's held the Grizzly offense scoreless in the second half. The Brown touchdown was the only score of the second half.
Neill completed 16-of-26 passes for 281 yards and five touchdowns. Molden had five catches for 151 yards and three scores and Humphery had 114 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns. He also had two catches for 22 yards and a receiving touchdown.
Saint Mary's will return to action on Saturday, October 20 when it travels to Florida Atlantic University. Kickoff at Pro Player Stadium is scheduled for 1:00 pm pacific time.
