Women's Volleyball Falls to #13 Pepperdine 3-0

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's women's volleyball team (3-13/0-6) was defeated by Pepperdine (11-2), 3-0, in a West coast Conference match on Friday at McKeon Pavilion.

The Pepperdine Waves controlled much of the game as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead by picking up a 30-19 win in game one. In that game, the Waves posted a .325 hitting percentage. The Waves continued to dominate posting wins in game two and three, 30-21 and 30-21, respectively. The Gaels showed some life pulling within 26-21 in game three, but were unable to perform a comeback.

Pacing the Gaels was junior outside hitter Rachel Avilla. Avilla had nine kills and a .250 hitting percentage to go along with eight digs. Carla Jo Vandenbark had a solid night as she recorded seven kills, four blocks, and a .222 hitting percentage. Setter Brooke Lowry had 25 assists and Meagan Smith had 10 digs.

Leading the way for the Waves was Katie Wilkins with 22 kills, nine digs and a .543 hitting percentage. Both Brie Harris and Lyndsey Hache had 11 kills while Hache posted a remarkable .786 hitting percentage. Setter Paola Rodriguez had 51 assists and Melissa Snow had 13 digs.

Saint Mary's will return to conference action on Saturday, October 20 as they host Loyola Marymount. First serve is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. in McKeon Pavilion.
