Eight Student-Athletes On WCC Spring All-Academic Teams

June 14, 2001

Moraga, CA - The 2001 West Coast Conference Spring All-Academic team honored eight student athletes from Saint Mary's College, representing six spring sports sponsored by the conference. Both the men's tennis and women's rowing teams placed three members on the all-academic teams from their respective sports.

Aside from the six student-athletes from the men's tennis and women's rowing teams, Saint Mary's added one player from the women's tennis and baseball teams to round out the eight Gaels on the WCC All-Academic squads.

The men's tennis team was represented by seniors Boris Vallejo and Arturo Planell and sophomore Thomas Burgemeister. Women's rowing saw senior Sabrina Linden, junior Christine Dennler, and sophomore Tara Doyle garner all-academic honors. Junior Brian Houle was Saint Mary's baseball representative and senior Karen Holland earned the honor from women's tennis.

With the addition of the eight student athletes from the spring sports, Saint Mary's student-athletes garnered 13 total members on the WCC All-Academic teams for the 2000-01 athletic year.

At the completion of each athletic season, the WCC selects a ten-member all-academic squad for each sport of the participating sponsored sports. To be considered a student-athlete must earn at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average while also being a significant contributor to his or her team.
