Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's women's volleyball team fell to the #12 Pepperdine Waves 3-0. Individual game scores were 30-24, 30-28, and 30-21. With the loss the Gaels fell to 5-13 overall and 2-4 in the West Coast Conference. The Waves improved to 13-6 overall and 6-0 in the WCC.
Pepperdine led throughout the majority of game one, jumping out to a quick 8-4 lead over the Gaels. Saint Mary's was able to tie the game at 13, but Pepperdine quickly regained control and eventually won the first game by six points.
Despite its game one loss, Saint Mary's entered game two with confidence and jumped out to a 4-1 lead. Pepperdine then battled back, taking a 6-5 lead over the Gaels. The Gaels continued to fight, tying the game at 24 and again at 28, but lost by a margin of two points due to back-to-back errors.
In game three, Pepperdine took a 1-0 lead and never relinquished it. Despite the tough play and constant pressure of Saint Mary's, Pepperdine refused to crack, winning the game by nine points.
Brooke Lowry led the Gaels, posting her 10th double-double of the season with 41 assists and 10 digs. Jill Parmele and Lindsey Bogason posted 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Freshman Kaui Salzman posted nine digs in the match.
Lyndsey Hache led the Waves, hitting .480 with 16 kills in 25 attempts. Brie Harris also recorded 16 kills, posting a .467 hitting percentage. Katie Wilkins had a stellar performance, posting a .419 hitting percentage with 15 kills in 31 attempts. As a team, the Waves dominated at the net, out-blocking the Gaels 46-0.
The Gaels will play the second leg of their two-match road trip on Saturday, October 26 against Loyola Marymount. The match will be played in Gersten Pavilion at 7:05 p.m.
