Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's women's volleyball team fell to Loyola Marymount, 3-1. Individual game scores were 30-26, 21-30, 24-30, and 21-30. With the loss, the Gaels fell to 5-14 overall and 2-5 in the West Coast Conference. The Lion's improved to 13-6 overall and 4-2 in WCC play.
Game one began with Saint Mary's dominating offensively and out-hitting the Lions, .311 to .195. Lindsey Bogason posted three blocks in the Gaels' first 14 points, giving Saint Mary's ownership of a commanding 14-8 lead. The Lions slowly chipped away at SMC's lead, but were never able to get within two points of the Gaels. Saint Mary's led throughout the entire game and won by a margin of four points.
The Lions jumped out to identical 14-8 leads in games two and three. The Gaels played well defensively, but struggled on offense, hitting .023 in game two and .091 in game three. The Gaels lost the games by nine and six points respectively.
LMU kept its momentum rolling into the fourth game, working up an 18-10 lead. While the Gaels would not give up, and continued to grind away at the Lions' lead, they were unable to make up any ground and dropped the game to the Lions by eight points.
The Gales were led by Brooke Lowry who had a match-high 40 assists to go along with her nine digs. Despite the Gaels hitting .112 as a team, Erin Gravert managed to hit a match-high .467. Gravert also posted five blocks in the match. Lindsey Bogason tallied a team-high 13 kills, while Jill Parmele posted 12 kills and seven blocks. Stacey O'Connor managed six blocks in the match and Kaui Salzman posted 10 digs.
The Lions were led by Kristen Gallup's 21 kills and 12 digs. Kealani Kimball posted 12 kills and 13 digs for the Lions. Megan Wooton tallied a team-high 31 assists and Tiana Newsome had a match-high 8 blocks.
The Gaels return to action on Friday, November 1 when they play Santa Clara in McKeon Pavilion at 7:05 p.m.
