Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's women's volleyball team fell to #12 Santa Clara, 3-0. Individual game scores were 30-23, 30-23, and 30-21. With the loss the Gaels fell to 5-15 overall and 2-6 in West Coast Conference play. The Broncos improved to 19-3 overall and 7-1 in the WCC.
Saint Mary's was able to strike first in each game of the match, jumping out to a 6-3 lead in game one, a 9-3 lead in game two and a 2-0 lead in game three. However, the Gaels were unable to hold off the #12 ranked Broncos and eventually fell in all three games.
The Gaels were led by senior Brooke Lowry who posted 24 assists and five digs in the match. Rachel Avilla posted 11 digs and eight kills and Lindsey Bogason tallied nine digs and eight kills. Freshman Kaui Salzman posted a team-high 15 digs in the match, while Jill Parmele notched nine kills and six digs.
Kelli Sousa led Santa Clara with match-highs of 40 assists and 16 digs. Alyssa Lantz posted 15 kills and four digs and Becky Potter tallied 11 kills and nine digs. Chrissy Hirsch managed 13 digs in the Bronco win.
The Gaels will return to action tomorrow night when they play the University of San Francisco at 7:05 p.m. in McKeon Pavilion.
