Women's Volleyball Defeats Gonzaga, 3-1

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's women's volleyball team defeated Gonzaga, 3-1. Individual game scores were 25-30, 30-18, 30-15, and 30-27. With the win the Gaels improved to 8-17 overall and 5-7 in the West Coast Conference. Gonzaga fell to 4-23 overall and 2-11 in WCC play.

Gonzaga held control of the first game of the contest as the Zags combined for a .227 team attack percentage compared to only .140 for the Gaels. Both teams finished with 16 kills in the opener, while Rachel Avilla paced SMC's attack with five kills.

Saint Mary's caught fire in games two and three as the Gaels hit over .400 in both games and cruised to easy victories. Lindsey Bogason came up big for Saint Mary's with 12 kills over the two games. Saint Mary's dominated, forcing Gonzaga to commit eight attack errors in the two games, while also holding the Bulldogs below 20 points in both games.

In the final game both schools traded attacks as Gonzaga rolled out to a 12-9 lead. Saint Mary's responded and moved into a three-point advantage of its own at 23-20. The Gaels continued to attack and killed Gonzaga's chances as they forced the Bulldogs to commit four more attack errors in the fourth and deciding game.

Leading the way for the Gaels was Lindsey Bogason, who tallied a career-high 23 kills in the match. Bogason was extremely efficient offensively, as she also managed to post a career-best .386 hitting percentage. Brooke Lowry posted her second double-double of the week, as she dished out a match-high 51 assists and 12 digs. Jill Parmele and Rachel Avilla contributed 15 kills a-piece, while Kaui Salzman posted a match-high 14 digs. Stacey O'Connor chipped in with a match-high seven blocks.

Gonzaga was led by Abby Cullen who tallied 16 kills and six blocks. Christina Davis added 10 kills and Heather Signor finished with 11 digs.

The Gaels will play their final two matches of the season at home next weekend. On Friday, November 22 the Gaels take on Loyola Marymount and on Saturday, November 23 the Gaels finish off the season against #9 Pepperdine. Both matches will begin at 7:05 p.m.
