Box Score

SANTA CLARA, CA (AP) - Steve Ross scored a game-high 24 points, connecting on four-of-five 3-point attempts, to lead Santa Clara to a 56-49 victory over Saint Mary's Saturday.

Ross, a senior guard, was the saving grace for Santa Clara (12-13, 7-5 West Coast Conference) throughout the game, scoring 12 points and hitting two 3-pointers in each half.

For the game, he made seven of 13 shots and four-of-five from long range while the Broncos as a team could only connect on 33 percent of their shots and 27 percent from 3-point range.

The Broncos did excel from the line in the second half, making 78 percent from the line.

Sophomore Kyle Bailey helped the Santa Clara cause by scoring all 13 of his points in the second half by making nine freethrows.

Saint Mary's (7-18, 2-10,) like Santa Clara, performed poorly in virtually every offensive category.

The Gaels connected on 32 percent from the floor, 27 percent from long range, and 54 percent from the stripe.

Chase Poole led Saint Mary's with 10 points.
