Moraga, CA- The Saint Mary's softball team (6-19) lost to the University of Wisconsin-Madison (10-5) on Thursday, March 14. The Gaels were defeated by the Badgers 10-2 in the first round of the Annual Capital Classic Softball Tournament in Sacramento, CA.
The Gaels managed four hits off of pitcher Katie Layne. Laura Connors improved her season batting average to .254 as she went 1-for-2 at the plate with a single down the left field line in the top of the second inning. Sarah Vigna went 1-for-1 with one RBI, while Jennifer Arnold and Laura Davis each added one hit.
The Badgers jumped to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning as they combined for six runs on six hits. Meghann Reiss led the Badgers at the plate as she went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Jordan Larsen pitched the complete game for the Gaels and falls to a season record of 2-5
The Gaels continue tournament play on Friday, March 15, as they are scheduled to take on Long Island at 11:00 am, Utah State at 3:00 pm, and Nebraska at 5:00 pm.
