Softball Splits with Highlanders

Moraga, CA- The Saint Mary's softball team (12-25) split a doubleheader with UC Riverside on Wednesday, March 27. The Gaels won the first game 2-1 and then dropped the second game 5-3.

The Highlanders took an early lead in the bottom of the second inning in the first game when Karli Burneleit hit a solo homerun to left field off of pitcher Jennifer Eaton. The Gaels were held scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when the Gaels took advantage of two Highlander errors to score two runs and take the 2-1 lead.

Tiffany Redding led the Gaels at the plate as she went 2-for-3 while Eaton earned her fifth win of the season as she pitched the complete game for the Gaels. Eaton allowed one run on three hits, with four strikeouts and one walk.

In the second game, the Gaels lead the Highlanders 3-2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. An RBI double by Suzanne Dallas, followed by a two run homerun by Jeannine Robison gave the Highlanders their seventh win of the season.

Lauren Capoccia hit her first double of the season to right center field in the top of the fifth inning that scored Tiffany Redding and Claudia Williams. Capoccia went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Jordan Larsen falls to 5-8 on the season, allowing four earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

The Gaels return home to Cottrell Field on Saturday, April 3, for a doubleheader against Portland State. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
