Softball Falls to Cal Poly

March 3, 2002

Moraga, CA- The Saint Mary's softball team (4-13) dropped a doubleheader to Cal Poly on Sunday, March 3. The Gaels were shutout in both games by the Mustangs, falling 7-0 in game one and 5-0 in game two.

In the first game, the Gaels managed only two hits off of pitcher Jennifer Graver. Senior Kami Gray (Mt. Shasta, CA) and sophomore Jennifer Arnold (Oakley, CA) each went 1-for-3 at the plate.

Cal Poly took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning when Holly Ballard singled in Nicole Dansby from second base. The Mustangs added three runs in the second inning highlighted by Dansby's two-run triple down the right field line. Jennifer Eaton (Palo Cedro, CA) suffered the loss for the Gaels as she ended the game with 13 hits. Eaton falls to 1-7 on the season.

In the second game, pitcher Jordan Larsen (Chico, CA) and Terra Blankenbecler were locked in a scoreless battle through five innings. Jackie Wayland began the five-run inning for the Mustangs with a double to left field. Carrie Schebert singled in the only other earned run of the inning. The Mustangs took advantage of two errors by the Gaels and added four more runs before the inning was finished. Larsen is now 1-1 on the season.

Arnold earned her second hit of the day in the second game, going 1-for-2 with one walk. Tiffany Redding (Placerville, CA) managed the only other hit of the game for the Gaels in the bottom of the seventh inning with a single down the right field line.

The Gaels return home to Cottrell Field to take on Boston University on Tuesday, March 5 at 3:00 pm. The Gaels will host Georgia Tech on Wednesday, March 6 in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1:30 pm.
