Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's softball team (5-13) scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the Boston University Terriers (3-10), 2-1 in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon at Cottrell Field.
With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, a one-out RBI groundball off the bat of Talaya Turner plated Laura Davis for the game-winning run.
The inning started with a lead-off double by freshman Claudia Williams. Williams advanced to third on a bunt single by Davis. With runners on second and third, Williams was cut down at home on Sarah Vigna's groundball to second base. Turner, the next batter of the inning, hit a ball to the Terrier's shortstop, but Davis beat the throw home for the winning run.
Saint Mary's got on the score board in the first inning. Tami Gray, who triple to right center to open the inning, scored on a passed ball for the first run of the game. The score remained the same until the fifth inning when Boston tied the game.
Kristin Kneske doubled to open the fifth and would score on a one-out single off the bat of Tiffany Finateri. BU had a chance to add another run in the inning, but Saint Mary's shortstop Kami Gray cut down Finateri at the plate.
Jordan Larsen tossed a complete game for the Gaels to earn the win and improve her record to 2-1 on the season. Larsen allowed one earned run on five hits while striking out five batters. DeKenya Williams suffered the loss for the Terriers dropping her record to 0-6 on the season. Williams threw six innings, allowing two runs on eight hits.
