Final Stats
Portland, OR - Jason Waugh drove in three runs with three hits Saturday, leading Saint Mary's (15-16/7-5) to an 8-1 West Coast Conference win at Portland (13-19/7-8). The win gave the Gaels the series sweep over Portland.
Eric Bowden scattered seven hits in a complete-game performance, improving to 3-4 on the season. Matt Hollod (4-3) took the loss for Portland, giving up five runs and eight hits in 6+ innings.
Hollod trailed 2-1 heading into the top of the seventh, but the Gaels busted the game open with three consecutive doubles from Brett Wayne, Waugh and Mark Teahen. Brian Houle then greeted reliever Eric Hull with a two-run homer to cap the four-run inning.
Waugh's two-run single down the left field line in the second inning scored Adam Thompson and Wayne. Portland got a run back in the third on Matt Allen's sacrifice fly.
Bowden then retired 19 of the final 21 Pilot batters, getting a double play in the seventh inning after Cory Lunde had singled to lead off the inning.
The Gaels will return to action on Tuesday, April 16 when they travel to Palo Alto, CA to play the No. 2 Stanford Cardinals on the Sunken Diamond. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
