Men's Soccer Falls to #1 Stanford, 1-0

Sept. 15, 2002

Final Stats

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's men's soccer team (1-4-1) were defeated by the #1 Stanford Cardinal's (5-0), 1-0, in a thrilling match on Sunday, September 15, on Garaventa Field. The Gaels awarded Stanford the winning goal on a miscue of a SMC defender.

Stanford scored the first and only goal on the day when Taylor Graham's shot was blocked by Michael Johnson. Unfortunately, the shot ricocheted off of his shin guard and into the SMC's goal to put the Cardinal ahead for good 1-0.

Stanford outshot the Gaels 14-5 in the contest. Goalkeeper Josh Duffy recorded three saves in the game while Stanford's Robby Fulton earned one save.

The Gaels Johnson and Adam Zielske were named to the California All-Tournament Team after their stellar playing on the weekend.

The Gaels will return to action on Friday, September 20 as they host Sacramento State on Garaventa Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
