Volleyball Loses To #6-Ranked Pepperdine, 3-1

Malibu, CA- The Saint Mary's women's volleyball team lost to WCC opponent and #6-ranked Pepperdine by the final score of 3-1. Game scores of the Waves victory over the Gaels were 30-27, 30-28, 34-36, and 30-27. With the loss the Gaels fell to 0-2 in conference play and 13-6 overall on the season. Compounded with their victory over the Gaels, Pepperdine improved to 2-0 in conference and 12-2 overall on the season.

Though the Gael played tough against the Waves, their efforts were not enough to take down the national powerhouse. Saint Mary's play well by posting a .250 hitting percentage for the match, and even bettered the Waves final hitting percentage of .239. However, the Waves power game proved to be too much for Saint Mary's. A total of five Pepperdine players finished with double digits in kills. The Waves finished with a total of 81 kills to the Gaels 67.

Leading Saint Mary's on the evening was Kaui Salzman. The sophomore had a excellent night as she posted another double-double in kills and digs for the match against Pepperdine. Her 25 kills were a match-high and she also posted a team-high 21 digs against the Waves. For the match, Salzman also posted two aces and one block assist.

Also contributing for the Gaels was Jill Parmele and Lindsey Bogason. Parmele, a senior, finished with 16 kills and eight digs. The Acampo, CA native also recorded one ace and two block assists on the evening. Bogason also provided solid support for Saint Mary's as she finished with 11 kills, seven digs, and two block assists.

Saint Mary's will again take the court next Friday, October 10 as they host their first home conference match of the season against Gonzaga at 7:05 PM in McKeon Pavilion.
