Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's women's lacrosse team suffered a 12-6 defeat at the hands of the UC Davis Aggies on Tuesday afternoon in a Mountain Pacific Lacrosse League game from Saint Mary's Stadium. Saint Mary's falls to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the MPLL, while UC Davis improves to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in MPLL play.

The Aggies' Kelly Albin tallied three goals to lead UC Davis to its first win of the season. Albin was one of four players to tally two or more goals UCD. Leslie Kado, Naomi Coffman and Kate Hanson scored two goals a piece, for the Aggies, and Albin and Hanson added two assists each, and Kado tallied one assist as well.

Thera Luce paced the Gaels with two goals in the first loss of the season for SMC. Four other Gaels scored in the game as Colette Spencer, Molly Wagner, Lauren Riggers and Ally High scored one goal each.

After High scored the first goal of the game for SMC, UC Davis scored six unanswered goals to take a 6-1 lead 28 minutes into the contest. Coffman and Kado would both score twice over that stretch, before Luce added the Gaels second goal at the 29:41 mark, cutting the Aggies lead to 6-2 at halftime.

The Gaels cut the lead to 6-3 when Riggers scored just 2:13 into the second half. UC Davis' Albin scored the next two goals to open the UCD lead to 8-3 with 25 minutes left to play. Spencer added her only goal of the game at the 35:42 mark before the Aggies ran off four straight goals to open a 12-4 advantage. Two late goals by Luce and Wagner cut UC Davis' lead to 12-6 in the end.

UC Davis goalkeeper Kristen Braasch earned the win and improved her record to 1-1 on the season. Braasch faced 25 shots by the game and turned in 12 saves while allowing six goals. Megan Ceccotti took the loss for SMC as she allowed 12 goals on 27 shots. Ceccotti tallied 11 saves in the game.

Saint Mary's returns to action on Monday, March 3 when it hosts Holy Cross at 3:30 PM in Saint Mary's Stadium.
