Baseball Shuts Down Pacific, 6-0

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's baseball team held the Pacific Tigers scoreless to win 6-0 on Saturday, March 1 at Louis Guisto Field. With the win the Gaels improve to 5-8 and Pacific falls to 13-4.

The Gaels exploded for two runs in the bottom half of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. Gilbert Gil hit a double down the left field line to score Mike Harris. James Gaulke later got in on the rally with a single to score Mike Sansoe.

In the fourth inning the Gaels added to their lead with one run. Adam Bellows connected on a sacrifice hit to center field to score Bryan Byrne and give SMC a 3-0 advantage.

The Gaels started off the seventh inning with two base runners, both got on due to Tiger errors. Sansoe then bunted on to load the bases with no outs. Gil then singled to score Bellows. Byrne later singled to center to score two runs to give the Gaels a 6-0 lead after seven innings of play.

Saint Mary's would continue the shutout as the dynamic duo of starting pitcher Eric Bowden and reliever Dane Dobrinich kept the tigers scoreless. With the win, Bowden improved to 2-2 on the season, while UOP's starter, James Stanford, fell to 1-1.

Leading the way offensively for the Gaels was Sansoe, who finished with a 2-for-3 plate appearance. Gil finished 2-for-4 at the plate.

The Gaels will finish the three-game series with the Pacific Tigers on Sunday, March 2 in Stockton, CA. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Billy Herbert Field.
