No. 15 Volleyball Sweeps San Francisco

Moraga, CA - The No. 15-ranked Saint Mary's volleyball team didn't waste any time beating visiting San Francisco on Saturday night at McKeon Pavilion. The Gaels swept the Dons in 1:30 minutes, 30-24, 30-24, 30-27, to improve to 6-1 in West Coast Conference play and 17-2 on the season. San Francisco fell to 2-5 in conference and 9-14 overall.

The Gaels also snapped a two-match losing streak to San Francisco, the Dons beat the Gaels twice last season, including a 3-2 victory in the final match of the season at McKeon Pavilion.

On Saturday night, the Gaels fell behind early in Game 1, but rallied from behind to take the first game, leading to a quick Game 2 victory, before having to rally in Game 3.

Overall, Saint Mary's was led by junior outside hitter Kaui Salzman, who recorded 18 kills and 11 digs, which included a .318 hitting percentage. The Gaels' Lindsey Bogason added 13 kills, with a .440 hitting percentage and six digs, Cassandra Kolkka added a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs and Mariko Coverdale had 10 kills and three total blocks.

Saint Mary's sophomore setter Mandy Bible led the offense with 37 assists and added eight digs and two aces. Freshman Missie Stidham added nine digs and three aces.

As a team the Gaels recorded hitting percentages of .293 in Game 1, .347 in Game 2, and .333 in Game 3. Saint Mary's also had 60 kills and 47 digs. San Francisco had hitting percentages of .265 in Game 1, .167 in Game 2, and .265 in Game 3. The Dons also recorded 45 kills and 55 digs.

Saint Mary's returns to action on Friday, October 29 when they travel to Southern California to face Pepperdine at 7:05 p.m. in Malibu. The Gaels will then face Loyola Marymount on Saturday, October 30 at 7:05 p.m. in Los Angeles.
