Piscataway, N.J. (AP) - Quincy Douby scored 21 points and hit the basket that put Rutgers ahead to stay in a 66-58 victory over St. Mary's Saturday night.
Playing its home opener, Rutgers (2-0) gave St. Mary's (4-3) its first loss in three road games, although the Gaels also have two defeats on neutral courts.
A putback by St. Mary's Frederic Adjiwanou, who had 13 points, gave St. Mary's a 44-42 lead midway through the second half. But Adjiwanou missed the ensuing free throw on the three-point play attempt and Douby hit a three-pointer that gave the Scarlet Knights a 45-44 lead with 10:15 remaining, and they never trailed again.
