MORAGA, Calif. (AP) - Frederic Adjiwanou had his second double-double of the season to lead St. Mary's to a 66-55 nonconference victory over Hampton on Sunday.
Adjiwanou had 15 points and 10 rebounds as well as four blocked shots. His buzzer-beating rebound to score after a missed fastbreak layup by Jason Walberg after a steal gave the Gaels a 29-22 halftime lead.
Adjiwanou hit a 3-pointer and free throw, then had a block that led to another St. Mary's basket to start the second half.
Walberg hit a pair of 3-pointers and Daniel Kickert, who led the Gaels with 16 points, had a three-point play for his only points of the second half as St. Mary's (9-4) broke the game open with an 11-2 run before the midway point of the second half after Hampton (3-6) had cut its lead to seven.
Hampton was able to stay in the game in the first half despite hitting only four of 10 free throws by forcing 11 St. Mary's turnovers.
Brandon Streeter led the Pirates with 15 points and eight rebounds from off the bench.
Paul Marigney had 13 from off the bench for St. Mary's, which hit 12 of 25 shots in the first half and 12-of-24 in the second.
St. Mary's hit six 3-pointers to Hampton's three, went 12-of-16 from the line to Hampton's 8-for-18 and outrebounded the Pirates 34-27. St. Mary's had seven blocks during the game.
