Baseball Pounds Out 10 Runs in Victory

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's baseball team scored runs in each of the first six innings totaling 10 runs as they beat visiting Nevada 10-6 on Tuesday afternoon at Louis Guisto Field. The Gaels, who open West Coast Conference action on Saturday against Gonzaga, looked impressive after a week off as they totaled 14 hits in the game. With the win Saint Mary's improved to 5-15 on the season, while the Wolf Pack dropped to 9-11.

Saint Mary's scored one run in each of the first five innings, taking a 4-0 lead until the Wolf Pack scored two in the fifth inning. Saint Mary's answered with one in the bottom of the fifth for a 5-2 lead. Nevada cut the lead to 5-4 after two runs in the top of the sixth inning, but the Gaels broke the game open with a five run sixth inning, capped off by a Michael Harris two-run home run.

In the game the Gaels were led offensively by Harris, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI in his first game back from injury. Gilbert Gil went 2-for-4, Bryan Byrne was 1-for-3 with one RBI, Adam Bellows went 1-for-4 with two RBI and Delaney Gallagher was 2-for-4 with one RBI and three runs scored.

The Gaels were also led by Sam Carter, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Stefan Foushee went 2-for-3 with one run scored.

Saint Mary's starting pitcher Jordan Simo picked up the victory, as he improved to 3-3 on the season. The Gaels used five pitchers in the game as they tuned up for the weekend. Nevada used eight pitchers in the game.

The Gaels return to action on Saturday, March 20 when they host Gonzaga in the first game of a doubleheader at noon at Louis Guisto Field. The second game will follow shortly after the first game.
