Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's baseball team broke out of its eight-game losing streak in a big way on Tuesday afternoon at Louis Guisto Field. The Gaels pounded out five runs in the first inning and six runs in the second inning on their way to a 12-4 victory over UC Davis in a non-conference game. With the victory the Gaels improve to 9-26 overall. The Aggies fell to 30-9 overall.
Saint Mary's starting pitcher Justin Sloan allowed one run in the top of the first inning, but the Gaels answered with five runs in the bottom half.
Michael Harris led off with a double, followed by a double by Sam Carter to score Harris. After Bryan Byrne lined out to center, Adam Bellows singled in Carter, followed by a Delaney Gallagher single, a Gilbert Gil single, two hit batters and a walk to bring in Saint Mary's five runs.
In the second inning, the Gaels batted around for the second consecutive inning, using six singles, a walk and an error for six runs to post an 11-1 lead after two innings.
Sloan pitched well in his second start of the season. Sloan allowed three earned runs on six hits over six innings, while striking out two batters.
Offensively, the Gaels were led by Michael Harris who went 2-for-3, J.P. Musgrove went 2-for-3, Adam Bellows and Delaney Gallagher went 2-for-4 and Sam Carter went 2-for-6.
Saint Mary's returns to action on Friday, April 16 when it hosts San Francisco in the first game of a three-game series with the Dons at 3 p.m. at Louis Guisto Field.
