Moraga, CA- The Saint Mary's men's tennis team captured its seventh straight victory by defeating visiting division II powerhouse UC San Diego by a score of 5-2. Saint Mary's sophomore Adam Fauvre sealed the victory for the Gaels when he won the fourth match of the day over the No. 13-ranked Tritons. The Gaels won two out of the three doubles matches to capture the point and earned victories in four of the six singles matches to fend off UC San Diego. With the win Saint Mary's improves its record to 11-6.
The Gaels started off the afternoon by capturing two of the three doubles matches. At the #1 position Martin Marechal and Andre Sion teamed up to defeat Bryan Swatt and Amir Nejad 8-4. The Saint Mary's tandem of Rafael Lopez and Adam Fauvre earned their fourth straight victory by beating UC San Diego's Jeff Wilson and Seth Spector 8-6 at the #3 position.
The lone loss for the Gaels in doubles action came at the #2 position where Vincent LeBorgne and J.J. Whitlinger were ousted by Nick Morton and Brent Molden 8-3.
In singles action, Saint Mary's won four out of the six matches. Saint Mary's sophomore Vincent LeBorgne earned his tenth straight victory and improved to 13-2 on the season by defeating Jeff Wilson in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4, at the #3 position. At the #1 position, freshman Andre Sion also improved his record to 13-2 by beating Bryan Swatt 6-2, 6-0. At the #5 position Adam Fauvre captured his thirteenth win on the season as well by defeating Amir Nejad 6-3, 7-5. Saint Mary's Martin Marechal improved to 9-6 on the season when he beat Emil Novak 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 at the #2 position.
The two losses on the afternoon for the Gaels came at the #4 and #6 singles positions. At the #4 position senior Rafael Lopez fell to Brent Molden 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 while J.J. Whitlinger lost to Seth Spector 6-1, 7-5.
Saint Mary's (11-6) returns to action tomorrow, April 3 when it hosts West Coast Conference foe Portland at the Tim Korth Tennis Complex at Noon.
