
Baseball's Comeback Falls Short Against Santa Clara

Santa Clara, CA - The Saint Mary's baseball team came back from a 6-0 deficit to cut the lead to one run, but fell short, losing 6-5 to Santa Clara in the first game of a three-game series on Friday night at Buck Shaw Stadium. With the loss the Gaels drop to 5-11 in West Coast Conference play and 11-29 overall. The Broncos improved to 7-9 in conference play and 18-22 overall.
The Broncos scored six runs in the first two innings, before starting pitcher Jordan Simo settled down and shut Santa Clara down for the rest of the game.
Offensivley, the Gaels came alive in the fifth inning, scoring three runs in the top half and then scored one run in the sixth and one run in the seventh.
In the game Saint Mary's was led by Michael Harris, who went 3-for-5 with one run scored, Sam Carter went 2-for-4 with one RBI and Stefan Foushee went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Mike Sansoe and Adam Thompson each added one RBI.
Saint Mary's returns to action on Saturday, when it faces the Broncos at 1 p.m. at Buck Shaw Stadium in the second game of a three-game series.
