
Baseball Bounces Back With Victory Over Santa Clara

Santa Clara, CA - The Saint Mary's baseball team hit two three-run home runs in the game and scored nine runs over the final six innings en route to a 9-5 victory over the Santa Clara Broncos on Saturday afternoon at Buck Shaw Stadium. With the win in Game 2 of the series, the Gaels improve to 6-11 in West Coast Conference and 12-29 overall. Santa Clara fell to 7-10 in conference and 18-23 overall.
Saint Mary's was led offensively by Preston Young, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, including a three-run home run in the seventh inning. Sam Carter finished the game 2-for-4 and hit the Gaels' first three-run home run in the fifth inning. In the game the Gaels managed 12 hits, including two from Adam Thompson and Delaney Gallagher. Thompson and Gallagher each added an RBI.
Gaels' starting pitcher Allan Lobban picked up his second consecutive victory, pitching 5.2 innings, allowing four runs and striking out six batters. Parker Mangum pitched 2.1 innings in relief, allowing one earned run and Michael Nisco pitched a perfect ninth inning.
The Gaels and Broncos will meet in the third game of a three-game series on Sunday, April 25 at 1 p.m. at Buck Shaw Stadium on the Santa Clara campus.
