
Baseball Falls in Final Home Game

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's baseball team lost the final game of a three-game series to Loyola Marymount 10-3 on Monday afternoon at Louis Guisto Field. With the loss the Gaels drop to 7-17 in West Coast Conference action and 14-35 overall. LMU remains in first place with a 20-7 conference record and a 30-20-1 overall mark.
The Gaels took an early lead, scoring one run in the bottom of the second inning, when Mike Sansoe hit a two-out single to centerfield to score Sam Carter from second. Carter led off the inning with a single and advanced to on a Michael Harris sacrifice bunt.
The Lions came back with one run in the top of the fourth inning on an A.J. LaMonda sacrifice fly ball, scoring Clint McGill to tie the game 1-1. LMU then scored three more runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-1 lead after four consecutive singles.
Saint Mary's answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning after RBI ground outs by Preston Young and Bryan Byrne, scoring Mike Sansoe and Stefan Foushee to give the Lions a 4-3 lead.
LMU then added six unanswered runs to give them a 10-3 lead.
In the game, the Gaels were led offensively by Adam Thompson, who went 3-for-5, Sam Carter went 3-for-3 with one run scored, and Mike Sansoe went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.
Saint Mary's returns to action on Friday, May 14, when it travels to Spokane, WA to take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs at 1 p.m.
