Baseball Ends Season With Loss To San Diego

San Diego, CA - The Saint Mary's baseball team ended its season on Friday afternoon, dropping two games to the San Diego Toreros at Cunningham Stadium in San Diego, CA. The Gaels lost Game 1 17-4, before dropping Game 2 9-4. With the two losses, the Gaels end the season with a 14-41 overall record and a 7-23 West Coast Conference mark.
In the second game, the Gaels fell behind 2-0, but scored three unanswered runs to take a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Toreros then mounted a rally and scored four runs in the seventh and three in the eighth for a 9-3 lead before Saint Mary's scored one run in the ninth.
Justin Sloan started the game for the Gaels and pitched seven solid innings, allowing six earned runs. Offensively, the Gaels were led by Preston Young, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI and Bryan Byrne went 3-for-5.
Sam Carter and Adam Bellows each added an RBI in the loss. Saint Mary's finished the game with 10 hits compared to San Diego's 14 hits.
In the first game, the Gaels' Jordan Simo started the game and gave up six early runs in the first inning, two in the third and five in the fifth, leading to a 13-1 lead by the Toreros. Saint Mary's added one run in the fourth, one in the fifth, one in the eight and one in the ninth for their four runs.
Offensively, the Gaels were led by Adam Thompson, who went 3-for-5 with one run scored, Delaney Gallagher went 2-for-3 and Rob Kohn went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Bryan Byrne, Michael Harris and Gilbert Gil each added one RBI in the loss. Saint Mary's finished the game with 13 hits, while the Toreros finished the game with 20 hits.
