
Baseball Drops Two Against Loyola Marymount

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's baseball team dropped a tough 10-inning game to the Loyola Marymount Lions in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday at Louis Guisto Field and then went on to lose the second game against the Lions. The Gaels lost the first game 8-6 and dropped the second game 12-3. With the two losses, the Gaels fall to 14-34 overall and 7-16 in West Coast Conference action. Loyola Marymount remains in first place in conference with a 19-7 record and a 29-20-1 overall mark.
In Game 2, the Gaels jumped out to an early lead for the second consecutive game, scoring one run in the first and two in the second for a 3-2 lead before the Lions tied the game 3-3 in the third inning. LMU broke the game open in the top of the sixth inning, scoring six runs off starting pitcher Jordan Simo.
Saint Mary's scored one run in the first off a RBI single by Delaney Gallagher, which scored Adam Thompson. The Gaels added two runs in the second on a RBI ground ball by Stefan Foushee and a RBI walk by Bryan Byrne.
The Gaels allowed two big innings, which hurt Saint Mary's, giving up six runs in the sixth inning and three runs in the eighth inning.
In the game, Adam Thompson led the way, going 2-for-5. Delaney Gallagher, Michael Harris, Adam Callan and Stefan Foushee each added a hit for Saint Mary's.
In Game 1, the Gaels jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, and added one more in the second inning for a 5-3 lead after the first two innings. The Lions answered with two run in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game 5-5. The two teams took the tie into the ninth inning, when the Lions broke the tie with a home run, but the Gaels came back with one run in the bottom of the ninth. LMU came back with two runs in the top of the 10th to take home the 8-6 victory.
The Gaels scored four runs in the first after Preston Young doubled, Bryan Byrne singled home Young, Delaney Gallagher doubled and Byrne scored on a passed ball. Sam Carter then tripled home Gallagher and then scored on a Michael Harris single.
Adam Thompson scored the Gaels lone run in the second inning after a wild pitch.
After both teams went to the ninth inning tied 5-5, LMU's Chris Pettit hit a solo home run to give the Lions a one run lead. Saint Mary's answered when Stefan Foushee singled to lead off the inning and then pinch runner Adam Callan scored on a Preston Young RBI single. The Gaels then loaded the bases with one out, but failed to score.
LMU capitalized in the 10th inning, scoring two runs and shutting down SMC in the bottom of the inning for the victory.
The two teams return to action Monday, May 10 at 3 p.m., when they conclude their three game series at Louis Guisto Field.
