SMC Athletic Staff Restructures After Recent Resignations

Aug. 23, 2004

Moraga, CA - In light of the recent resignations of former Associate Director of Athletics Stephanie Shrieve and Assistant Director of Athletics Andy McDowell, the Saint Mary's College Athletic Department has made some changes to its personnel responsibilities. Rich Davi has been promoted to an Assistant Athletic Director, Ticket Manager Mike Samuels will take on additional responsibilities, and Mark Chiarucci, a member of the College's Development Staff, will help facilitate relationships with Saint Mary's and potential corporate sponsors. Rich Davi has been promoted and will now be the Assistant Director of Athletics for Media Relations. Davi has served as the Director of Sports Information for the past four years. In addition to his current duties he will oversee all activities relating to television, radio and website for the athletic department. He has been a member of the athletic staff since 1999 when he was hired as the Graduate Assistant for Sports Information. He was hired as the Sports Information Director in April of 2000. Mike Samuels will continue to serve as the department's Ticket Manager, as well as assist with the marketing efforts for athletics. In addition to his duties at Ticket Manager, Samuels will oversee the production of promotional materials to include posters, magnets and schedule cards. Additionally, Samuels will provide administrative support for the men's and women's cross country programs. The 2003-04 athletic year marked the second year Samuels has worked at Saint Mary's following one year where he served as a volunteer in the Sports Information Office. Samuels was hired at the Ticket Manager in August of 2003. Mark Chiarucci was hired in 2003, as the Special Events Manager for the College's Development office. Chiarucci will continue to work as a member of the Development office, but in his new position, Assistant Director of Development for Athletics, he will work directly with the Department of Athletics and Recreational Sports. Previously, he was responsible for producing fund-raising events to benefit intercollegiate athletics. He will continue to handle those events and will also work closely with Director of Athletic and Recreational Sports, Carl Clapp in securing corporate sponsorship for athletic activities, as well as handle other development duties involving the alumni of athletic programs. Active searches are currently underway for an Assistant/Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance and a Director of Marketing and Promotions.
