MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's Volleyball had one of their best offensive weekends of the season, sweeping Cal Baptist, and putting up monumental efforts against defending Big West Champs Cal Poly and 20th ranked Utah at the 2025 SLO Classic. A big leader in the Gaels offensive onslaught was true freshman
Mya Allen, who, despite missing the entire second match, still finished second on the Gaels with kills this weekend, and has established herself as a bonafide threat in the Saint Mary's attack. This is Allen's first Student-Athlete of the Week honor, and the first by a Gaels volleyball player this season after capturing the award four times last year.
Last week at the SLO Classic, Allen tallied 24 kills in the opener against Cal Poly, becoming the first Gael freshman since 2015 to record a 20+ kill match (Lindsey Knudsen). She exited that match in the fifth set, and missed the next match, but bounced back against 20th ranked Utah with her first career double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. The freshman out of San Antonio now ranks second on the team with 86 kills and 3.07 kills per set, despite only playing in 28 of the 43 sets this season.
Allen will look to continue her hot start into conference play, starting this week as the Gaels will head north to take on Oregon State and Portland this week.
