Volleyball Continues Unbeaten Streak

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's volleyball team continued its unbeaten streak to start the season as the Gaels won their eighth match in a row with a 3-1 victory over San Jose State Tuesday night at McKeon Pavilion. The win improves the Gaels' record to 8-0, the best start in school history, and marks the third straight victory over San Jose State.

The Gaels jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after an impressive 30-15 victory in Game 1. But the Spartans bounced back with a 30-17 victory in Game 2 to even the match at 1-1. After the break, the Gaels came out strong and took the next two games 30-23 and 30-23 for the 3-1 victory. With the loss San Jose State falls to 5-2.

Saint Mary's was led by junior outside hitter Kaui Salzman, who recorded a double-double with 20 kills and 15 digs. Senior opposite hitter Lindsey Bogason also added 20 kills, to add to her team leading 117, including a .317 hitting percentage against the Spartans. Sophomore outside hitter Cassandra Kolkka also had a double-double for the Gaels, chipping in with 13 kills and 19 digs.

Sophomore setter Mandy Bible set the pace for the Gaels with 65 assists, her second consecutive game with more than 60 assists. Bible is now averaging 12.27 assists per game after eight matches. Freshman libero Melissa Stidham had a game-high 28 digs and a game-high five aces and Stacey O'Connor had a game-high six total blocks.

As a team the Gaels hit .400 in Game 1 and .488 in Game 4. Saint Mary's also recorded 72 digs and 37.5 total blocks.

The Gaels will return to action on Friday, September 17 when they travel to Provo, UT to compete in the BYU/Utah Tournament. Saint Mary's will face the Cougars at 7:30 p.m.
