Spokane, WA - The Saint Mary's volleyball team suffered its first West Coast Conference loss of the season on Saturday night, falling to the Gonzaga Bulldogs 3-1 in Spokane, WA. The No. 25th ranked Gaels fell 30-25, 16-30, 27-30, 25-30.
With the loss the Gaels fall to 13-4 overall and 4-1 in WCC play. Gonzaga improved to 10-11 overall and 2-3 in WCC play.
In the first game, the Gaels jumped out to a 30-25 win, behind a .261 hitting percentage. The Gaels went on to hit .209 in the second game, .095 in the third and .022 in the fourth, all three losses.
Overall the Gaels were led by Missie Stidham, who had 25 kills with a .197 hitting percentage and added eight blocks, five digs and two aces. Christina Kirk had seven kills with a .316 hitting percentage and added 11 blocks.
Kaui Salzman had 11 kills and added 14 digs and Cassandra Kolkka had six kills and 17 digs. Setter Mandy Bible recorded 48 assists, 11 digs and five blocks.
As a team the Gaels recorded 16 blocks. Gonzaga recorded 16 blocks, and hit .119 in the first game, .410 in Game 2, .133 in the third and .100 in the fourth game.
The Gaels return to action on Friday, October 21 when they host San Diego at 7:05 p.m. at McKeon Pavilion.
