Volleyball Picks Up Victory Over Portland

Moraga, CA - On senior night, Saint Mary's lone senior Kaui Salzman was honored before the game and then totaled 11 kills, eight digs and three aces in her final home match at McKeon Pavilion on Saturday night. Salzman helped lead the Gaels to a 3-1 victory over Portland.

Salzman has been a four-year starter for the Gaels, is the all-time digs leader and has helped lead the Gaels to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances for the first time in school history.

With the 30-22, 30-17, 27-30, 30-19 victory, the Gaels improve to 17-7 overall and 8-4 in West Coast Conference play. Portland fell to 4-20 overall and 1-11 in conference play.

The Gaels also received a career performance by freshman middle blocker Brittany Barker, who recorded 10 kills with a .389 hitting percentage.

Junior middle blocker Christina Kirk tied a school record with eight service aces in the match and also added 11 kills and seven blocks.

Saint Mary's was also led by Missie Stidham, who had 15 kills and nine digs, Cassandra Kolkka had 13 kills with a .409 hitting percentage and 10 digs and Mandy Bible led the offense with 48 assists, six aces and five digs.

As a team the Gaels hit .319 for the match and recorded 11.5 blocks. The Gaels also recorded 18 service aces in the match.

Saint Mary's returns to action on Friday, November 18 when it travels to Santa Clara to face the Broncos at 7:05 p.m.
