Volleyball Drops Final WCC Match to San Diego

San Diego, CA - The Saint Mary's women's volleyball team finished West Coast Conference Play with a tough 3-2 loss at San Diego on Saturday night, ending conference play with a 9-5 record. The Gaels dropped the first two games, rallied to win the next two games, before falling 15-11 in the fifth game.

The Gaels fall to 18-8 overall, but wrap up the regular season on Friday and Saturday, when they participate in the Pacific Tournament. The Gaels will face No. 20 Ohio in the opening match at 5 p.m. on Friday, November 25.

On Saturday night, the Gaels were led by Missie Stidham, who recorded a match-high 23 kills with a .299 hitting percentage. Stidham also added 15 digs and six blocks.

The Gaels once again had several players step up in the absence of Christina Kirk. Freshman Taylor Groess recorded a career-high 10 kills with a .333 hitting percentage and freshman Brittany Barker recorded 12 kills and added seven blocks.

Saint Mary's senior outside hitter Kaui Salzman recorded 17 kills in her final match in her home town of San Diego. Salzman also added 12 digs and three aces. Cassandra Kolkka had 14 digs and Lyndsey Parker added 13 digs. Mandy Bible led the offense with 58 assists, nine digs, seven blocks and three kills and Christine Kennedy had seven blocks in the middle.

As a team the Gaels recorded 16.5 blocks, hit .176 as a team and recorded 70 digs. The Toreros hit .193 and recorded 16 blocks.
