Malibu, CA - The Saint Mary's women's volleyball team lost a thrilling five-game match to Pepperdine on Friday night in Malibu, CA, and will face Loyola Marymount on Saturday night in Los Angeles. With the loss the Gaels drop to 15-6 on the season and 6-3 in West Coast Conference play.
Pepperdine remains in third place behind the Gaels with a 6-4 WCC record and a 13-10 overall mark.
In the fifth game, Pepperdine jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the race to 15. Trailing, 5-1, the Gaels made a run and after a Wave attack error had knotted the game at 6-all. Pepperdine then went on a 4-0 run. A Pepperdine service error kept things interesting and pushed the score to 12-11, before the Waves finished the game.
Saint Mary's was paced by Missie Stidham's 20 kill, 25 dig effort. Kaui Salzman chipped in 17 kills and 11 digs, while Cassandra Kolkka turned in a 14-kill, 14-dig effort for the Gaels.
The Gaels will face Loyola Marymount on Saturday night in Los Angeles at 7:05 p.m.
